Nicely light at just 4.4 pounds, the Medion Akoya LS notebook PC won't weigh you down when heading out to the highways and flyways for business or study groups around campus. Stylish with a light off-white chassis, the Akoya LS features a 12.1-inch screen and a long battery life of up to 4 hours. Other features include a 60 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM, 1.6-GHz Pentium M 730 processor, combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, integrated 54g wireless LAN, and built-in memory card slot for Memory Sticks and SD cards.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The 60 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is becoming the average size for notebook PCs, providing enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
- Processor: The 1.6 GHz Pentium M 730 (Centrino) processor is at the low end of the speed spectrum for this processor class (August 2005). It is well equipped for office productivity software tasks, from complex spreadsheets to databases. The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max. It also has a large 2 MB L2 cache--which will help speed up your system's performance--and a 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB).
- Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (2 x 256 MB DDR SDRAM) is a good start for power users, but it has only a maximum upgrade to 1 GB of RAM.
- CD/DVD Drive: This notebook includes a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, with 24x write/read and 10x rewrite speed for CDs and 8x read speed for DVDs.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 12.1-inch active matrix TFT screen offers a 1280 x 800 native resolution. Video and graphics are powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT). The integrated audio card provides 16-bit stereo sound via the built-in stereo speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The Akoya LS has an integrated Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG LAN, which will connect with both 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks in your home or in wi-fi cafes. You get a basic offering of connectivity options: - 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)

I have been shoping around for the perfect notebook to replace my old-and-bulky Dell Inspiron in the recent months, and found this Akoya LS the one fits my needs exactly:
1. Thin and small, without squeezing the keybord size.
2. Around 4 lbs, so I don't feel the weight while carrying it. My Inspiron is about 9 lbs. These 5 lbs makes a tremendous difference on my shoulder when I travel.

I got my medion akoya notebook last June as a gift from my husband and I absolutely love it. We got it for less than $1,000 including tax at bestbuy. I love the white color and I like the fact that it is SO thin and light. It only weighs about 5 lbs with the battery. The only downside was it took us some time to figure out how to connect to the internet because it has an internal cable. Its thin, light, and perfect size for a college student. I love it in white and I just got it and so far it runs great...but i still have to get to use it a bit more. Just to let everyone that mihe be interested know that Medion is a leading tech. producer in Germany. (It is a German company)...this is a big plus since Germany has very good stands on technology. Hope this helped a bit.(If the laptop is unavailable on amazon, try best buy!)
