Elevate your television viewing with the amazingly vibrant imagery and audio of the 40-inch Samsung LNR409D LCD TV, which employ Samsung's most advanced TV panel technology. It's also ready for high-definition telecasts right out of the box, with a built-in HDTV tuner that lets you receive and decode free, over-the-air high-def broadcasts where available (optional antenna required). You can also receive HD broadcasts from a separately available, HD-compatible set-top receiver or cable/satellite TV box via the component video or lossless HDMI connections. The set's CableCARD port means you can also receive digital cable television systems services directly from a compatible cable system without requiring a bulky, external cable box.
This set features a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, super-fast 8 ms (millisecond) response time (great for fast-action video games), 170-degree viewing angle, brightness rating of 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter), and an amazing 3000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. Samsung's patented My Color Control technology allows you to control specific colors without affecting the whole screen, providing a mix of primary and secondary color-control selections: white, red, pink, yellow, green and blue. Brightness and contrast levels are enhanced for deeper, richer blacks with greater detail, and more natural whites.
The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. A built-in brightness sensor automatically detects the ambient light and adjusts the TVÕs luminance accordingly. Other video enhancements include picture-in-picture (PIP) for watching two different video sources at once (such as TV and your PC) and 10-bit video processing for 6.4 billion lifelike colors.
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass. This set's Directionalized Acoustic Chamber System technology overcomes the acoustic limitations of traditional speakers by projecting sound evenly throughout the room through horn-shaped speakers. Rating: - Nice T.V. but blue neon light rules out use in bedroom
This T.V. is very nice. However, it is not for the bedroom. The blue neon light is very annoying at night (and, too much light while you're sleeping is actually unhealthy.)CNET tells you the blue light can be disabled, but it's only temporary. When the set is turned on again, it goes into a default "on" position. This happens with both "off" and "only while watching" settings. We would have gone with another brand of t.v. if we knew about this ahead of time.
Rating:  - Awesome flat panel if you can get a great price
This used to be the top of the line Samsung but now has been replaced by a new line. As you can expect prices have come down accordingly and depending on the merchant you should be able to get this for around $2000. At that price it's great opportunity.
The alternatives are the LNS4092D which has seemingly better specs higher dyanmic contrast and s-pva which gives a slightly wider viewing angle as well as a brighter Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. Don't be fooled. Check it out in person ... Read More
Rating: - Great TV--if Samsung would disable the bright blue light
The TV performance is great. Unfortunately the designers chose to put a bright blue light around the power button that bathes the room in neon blue whenever the TV is off. Their tech service staff agrees it in not aesthetic, but has no suggestions of how to disable it. Mine is in a cabinet, but if you choose to hang it on the wall, be aware that your room will have a bright blue light shining from the TV--a tacky addition to the wall decor.

After buying one of these and trying it, I bought another I liked it so much. Great picture with respect to color, clarity and scope of viewing angle. Good surround-type sound without home theater equipment for moderate size rooms. Easy set-up and good size for many conventional home locations with largish screen. Many connection options -- all around excellent.

For all those of you who got their cancelation notice email etc. Why dont you sue, i am sure youll get what you want, and more. But you must show the original purchase price in print, along with the cancelation email. An incident just like this has occured with airlines who advertise a wrong price and cancel, the end result is the customer wins.
