Rating: - Best way for anyone to discover Supertramp's legacy of music
Supertramp's 2-disc retrospective humorously titled Retrospectacle, released in October of 2005, is a must for all Supertramp fans.
Unlike the previous best ofs out there, Retrospectacle focuses on material from the band's entire career including songs from their poorly received (and sadly overlooked) first two albums to 2002's underappreciated Slow Motion and everything in between (including their classic 1974-83 period).
The 1970 self-titled debut album is represented by "Surely" ... Read More
Rating: - Great two CD set featuring a couple of rarities
Supertramp is one of the best progressive bands in history. Led by the vocalists/keyboards of Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson and the saxophones of Dougie Thompson, they produced some of the best records of all-time on the A&M label in the 1970s-1980s.
What makes 'Retrospectacle' (or 'Gold') unique is not only the best-of standards like 'Breakfast In America,' 'The Logical Song' and 'Bloody Well Right' but the inclusions of rarities and deep album cuts. 'Land Ho' has been 'lost' for nearly ... Read More
Rating: - Crime of the century indeed...
This had the potential to be one of the best collections of any band to come out of the 1970s. I purchased it on-line without even a look at the track listing, knowing it would have all of the best tunes of their other "best of" compilations and more. While I waited for it to arrive, I even took my old ST compilations to the used CD shop for turn in.
When this CD arrived I took a look at the track listing and almost had an annurism. WHERE IS HIDE IN YOUR SHELL!!!!!!!!!! Now I know what the real ... Read More
Rating: - THE Best Anthology of Supertramp's Music
Don't believe the review that says that Retrospectacle should hide in their shell. If you do, you will miss out on THE best Supertramp collection. This is a two disc set with all of the greatest AND memorable songs from this rock supergroup. I have the song Hide In Your Shell and I don't consider its exclusion as a bad thing. The songs that ARE included are simply worthy of being included. I think it was worth excluding one long song for two excellent shorter songs. Granted Hide In Your Shell is a ... Read More
