Offering a cooly modern design in white with rounded corners, nicely slim dimensions and an easily packable weight of just 4.2 pounds, the Averatec AV3715-ED1 is a great choice for home office commuters, college students, and anyone who wants to pack light while on the go. Speaking of packed, the AV3715-EH1 is stacked with impressive computing and communication features to keep you productive wherever the road takes you. A built-in high-speed wireless LAN with dual-antenna allows for super fast Internet multimedia streaming and downloading. It also includes a FireWire port for connecting to iPod digital audio players and your video camcorder as well as a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive (for burning your favorite music mixes). Other features include a bright 12.1-inch LCD screen, 60 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM, 1.8 GHz Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+ processor, Windows XP Home Edition (SP2), and a multi-format memory card reader.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: The 60 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is the average size for notebook PCs, providing enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
- Processor: A lower-end cousin to AMD's XP processor line, the 1.8 GHz Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+ found in this notebook is speedy enough for everyday computing needs and running office productivity software, but won't be quite enough for higher-end video editing or 3D gaming. This processor features AMD's Cool'n'Quiet Technology, which conserves power while also keeping the notebook's decibels to a minimum. It also features up to a 1600 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 128 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (333 MHz) is enough to get you started, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
- CD/DVD Drive: The 3715-ED1 trims down the price with a more standard DVD-ROM and CD-R/RW combo drive, rather than the newer dual-layer, multiformat DVD burner found in other comparable notebooks. However, this optical drive enables you to quickly burn your favorite music mixes to CD and comfortably watch DVD movies (with its 8x DVD-ROM speed).
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 12.1-inch XGA display employs TFT active matrix technology to bring you a clean, crisp picture. It has a 1024 x 768-pixel resolution and is powered by the integrated VIA/S3G graphics/video card. It also includes built-in stereo speakers as well as microphone and headphone jacks.

The AV3715-ED1 has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks. You get a basic offering of connectivity options, including both USB 2.0 and i.Link (FireWire): - 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players

Hey Jay Su, I notice that u have the same review for all the averatec laptops sold here on Amazon . Maybe, you DID buy all of them and HAD the SAME experience (which I don't think the case here). Or maybe you are just an AVERATEC hater. I bought two of their laptops. One for me and the other one for my little sister. And we both love it very very much. I think Averatec laptops are the best deals in town right now; considering the cost and their features.

I bought several of these for my small business. They've worked fine. In response to the previous poor review, lets put things in perspective. Averatec is not the Rolls Royce or Mercedes Benz of the computer industry. Averatec is comparable to, for example, Kia. If someone bought a Kia they're probably cashed strapped and need a car to get from point A to B. This computer is the same. Rating:  - WORST TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND RMA SERVICE EVER. PERIOD.
Already had THREE RMAs.
The first happened about 2 months after purchase. Windows wouldn't boot up, "Disk Read Error, Please restart."
sent it in for RMA.
3 weeks later they sent it back.
EXACT SAME PROBLEM. They didn't Fix a THING. No Documentation NOTHING.
Complained a lot. 2nd RMA and they finally fixed it.
Couple weeks later, the screen developed bright vertical lines across it. Bending the flimsy screen develops other lines. ... Read More
