When the movie begins Father Francis Chisholm (Peck) is an aging cleric who is about to be forced into retirement. Though he has apparently accomplished little during his career flashbacks reveal his enormous impact on those who knew him. As a young man Chisholm accepts the daunting challenge of running a mission in rural China. Indeed when he arrives he finds he has no church and no congregation. But over the years his honesty generosity and courage win the villagers' respect and slowly his mission prospers. Co-starring Vincent Price as a church official prone to posturing Edmund Gwenn as Chisholm's mentor and Roddy McDowall (who plays Chisholm as a boy) The Keys Of The Kingdom was written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz ("All About Eve") and Nunnally Johnson ("The Grapes of Wrath")> It is the inspiring moving story of one man's effort to serve God without any thought of personal gain or earthly reward.System Requirements:Running Time: 137 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA UPC: 024543239208 Manufacturer No: 2233920

Rating: out of 5 stars - Elegance
What a beautiful film! What a fair film! What a great story! Hollywood is afraid to make movies with this much integrity and truth today. There was an elegance and a reality to this story that today's films do not know. Peck is wonderful and the Chinese characters are never patronized. They sometimes steal the scene, and for the time it was made, this is wonderful. Seminaries should use this film in the training of priest and missionaries. Hollywood should use this to train directors, actors, and ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM!
I FIRST SAW THIS BEAUTIFUL FILM WHEN I WAS PROBABLY IN GRADE SCHOOL (AT LEAST 60 YEARS AGO). I WAS SO MOVED BY THE BEAUTY AND THE MESSAGE OF THIS FILM THAT IT REMAINS JUST ABOUT MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIMES, ALTHOUGH I DO HAVE MANY THAT I ENJOY SO MUCH. I READ THE BOOK LONG AGO AND LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH AS THE MOVIE. AS AN OLDER WOMAN, I REALIZE THERE ARE SO MANY PRECIOUS AND DEAR PEOPLE, WHO HAVE THE SAME VALUES IN THEIR LIFE. IN ALL THESE TROUBLED TIMES, THIS KIND OF PICTURE INSPIRES US AND GIVES ... Read More

My copy was excellent in quality in video and audio. I enjoyed the film as much now as in the past. I was very pleased that this story had made it to dvd. Thank you. It's still an excellent story.

Rating: out of 5 stars - A Wonderful Picture
This is a wonderful picture that shows how Christian Love can transform lives and relationships. I am not Catholic, but I enjoyed it because it shows how faith and love can overcome even in tough situations.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Keys of the Kingdom
I saw 'Keys of the Kingdom' when I was a 6th grader in a Catholic school and, even then, thought it was a sweet and gentle movie. When my 86 year old mother was decrying the fact that there are no longer any "good" movies on TV, I started buying "good" movies for her viewing. The first such movie was 'Keys of the Kingdom', which follows the life and adventures of a Scottish Catholic priest from childhood to his time as a missionary in China until his retirement to his boyhood home in Scotland. A very ... Read More
