COMPAQ PRESARIO V5306US NOTEBOOK PC - AMD - TURION 64 MOBILE - ML-28 - 1.6 GHZ -
Take your computing life with you wherever you roam with the Compaq Presario V5306US designed for the budget-minded mobile professional. Featuring a cool, modern metallic design, the V5306US weighs only 6.4 pounds and just 1.77 inches thin. The widescreen 15.4-inch BrightView display is easily viewable even in direct sunlight and is great for watching DVD movies in their natural aspect ratio. It's powered by the efficient 2.0 GHz AMD Sempron 3300+ processor, and it also offers a 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive for watching movies and burning your favorite music mixes to disc, 54g wireless connectivity with 125HSM/SpeedBooster support, ExpressCard 54/34 card slot, an ATI Radeon Xpress 200m graphics card with up to 128 MB of shared video memory, and Windows XP Home edition. This is a Windows Vista capable PC.
The Basics
  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is becoming average in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.
  • Processor: A lower-end cousin to AMD's XP processor line, the 2.0 GHz AMD Sempron 3300+ found in this notebook is speedy enough for everyday computing needs and running office productivity software, but won't be quite enough for higher-end video editing or 3-D gaming. This processor features AMD's Cool'n'Quiet Technology, which conserves power while also keeping the notebook's decibels to a minimum. It also features up to a 1600 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 128 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)
  • Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM (333 MHz) is enough to get you started, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
  • CD/DVD Drive: With the included DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, you'll be able to watch DVD movies as well as burn data and your favorite music mixes to CD. It has a 24x write speed for CDs.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a full-sized 101-key keyboard and touchpad with four-way scroll zone on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 15.4-inch LCD offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The widescreen display gives increases the width of the notebook's display while giving the computer the form factor of a smaller computer, so it takes up less space on your desk or in your briefcase. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3-D graphics. It delivers 128 MB of dedicated video RAM (separate with the system memory). ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. It also features an integrated audio card with microphone and headphone jacks.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (but no PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a basic offering of connectivity options, which does not include FireWire:
  • 2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
  • 1 ExpressCard 54/34
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • 1 notebook expansion port
  • 1 consumer IR (infrared)
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), PC Recovery, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Sonic Digital Media Plus, Vongo, Muvee autoProducer, Microsoft Money, MSN Encarta Plus, Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition (60 day trial Version), and HP PhotoSmart Premier for editing and organizing your digital photos.
Dimensions and Weight
This notebook measures 14.1 x 10.2 x 1.77 inches (WxHxD) and weighs 6.4 pounds.
Power
This notebook is powered by a 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which offers up to 2 hours of battery life (dependent upon computing conditions).
What's in the Box
This package contains the HP Compaq Presario V5306US notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. It is backed by a limited warranty for parts and labor for one year from date of purchase as well as technical telephone assistance for one year. Software is also covered for 30 days from date of purchase.

Rating: out of 5 stars - The Greatest Laptop Ever!!!!!!!
I really love my lap-top. It's everything I wanted and more. I appreciate the fast delivery and the customer service I have recieved. I like the wireless feature, and the widescreen. I would have like to known that my laptop didn't come with Microsoft Word. I like the 80 GB Hrad Drive, 512 MB Ram. I especially like the DVD/CD-RW Combo drive. Overall I really love my laptop!

Thank You!!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Entirely satisfied
I bought this low-end notebook computer primarily to take on my summer vacation. I need to keep in touch with my business even during vacations.

I especially wanted a Windows XP machine, not Vista. I use legacy programs that may not run on Vista, and I didn't want to have to deal with that issue.

I could have purchased a refurbished unit directly from HP for a lower initial price. But HP shipping was very expensive, so with free shipping the total was actually lower for ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - I didnt work
When I tried to turn it on it beeped 4 times and never turned on. This is not a good product. I will have to call warranty

Rating: out of 5 stars - One of the last XP laptops
I bought it from Amazon as I had this specific requirement to get WinXP laptop that's not very costly. Problem with Vista laptops that come with 512MB RAM is they are kinda slow and I would need to have 2GB RAM to be able to do everything I want to on Vista. Also you might have hard time to install MS Office older versions. I had MS Office bought 2yrs back that I wanted to use instead of purchasing a new Vista version.

So this laptop serves my purpose of a home user who doesnt need Vista ... Read More
