I've been quite happy with my HP a1700n overall, BUT I have had a problem with the sleep mode. I.e., I put it to sleep, and when I click on the mouse to bring it back, the screen goes black and I have to reboot.

We purchased the computer about a year ago and have been very satisfied. Yes, you get what you pay for and it is very BASIC. Switching from XP to Vista was OK - actually, we like Vista more and more! We added RAM a few months ago and it runs everything much faster - of course. Overall, we are satisfied... though HP Help could be a little better. For an inexpensive computer, it does everything we purchased it for. No problems so far...

It started out to be a pretty good computer, although I did have to return the one I originally bought because of a drive problem, so this is actually my 2nd one. It was fast, everything worked great and we were happy with it. My previous XP machine was terrible, and I was really unhappy with Windows. This computer turned out to be a big headache. I have had it for six months and the hard drive has crashed twice. I continue to have problems. HP customer support is great the first time you call but after that they are unwilling to help. I can honestly say I will never buy a HP computer again.
