Works just like the number pad on a standard keyboard. I do a lot of calculations and when I purchased my 15" laptop, I was concerned with processor speed and all that; failed to notice there was no number pad. Felt kinda stupid when I got it home=). Then I found the keypad on Amazon and my problems (this one anyway) are solved. It's a little bulky, but I think it needs to be. Otherwise it might be too small to use by touch.
