Even without MySpace, singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat is sure to have found an audience, but her oft-accessed page accelerated the process, mostly on the strength of the effervescent "Bubbly." On her first full-length album, the California native conjures up clear skies and warm breezes. Not that the lyrics revolve around her stomping grounds of Malibu and Ventura County, but her mellow melodies sound like products of those places (co-writer Jason Reeves' ukulele playing reinforces the beach music impression). Instead, Caillat sings about love in all its guises, as on "Capri," a tribute to a mother-to-be. The daughter of audio engineer Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac's Rumours), who provides production assistance, Colbie combines acoustic pop, light jazz, and blue-eyed soul on Coco. Despite her young age--22 at the time of its release--the record seems likely to attract an older audience, although her sunny singing manages to sound centered and spirited at the same time. Coco doesn't offer anything startlingly new, but its relaxing vibe is hard to resist. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat is one of the most celebrated artists to emerge from the growing talent pool of digitally-savvy self-launched artists, whose rise to prominence as the #1 unsigned artist on the popular myspace site has been largely due to her refreshing sense of understatement.
With no marketing push and only the power of the music behind her, Caillat became a sensation on the social networking site. Rolling Stone highlighted her as one of the top female artists on myspace. Ultimately, her number of friends swelled to more than 100,000. Her profile has been visited over 3 million times, and she has more than l0 million plays. She's currently averaging 50,000 + a day.
The songs on Caillat's debut album COCO mirror the Malibu-born Caillat's low-key, refreshing style. Armed with her acoustic guitar and her dusky vocals, she evokes the same gentle, yet spirited style of her musical influences John Mayer, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and The Weepies. The laid-back tempo of Hawaii, where she spent twice annual family vacations, is echoed in the music.
"She's the real thing," stated Monte Lipman, President of Universal Republic Records. "From her unique songwriting skills to her powerful but understated presence, Colbie has connected to millions of music lovers simply through the power of her music. UK pressing of the 2007 debut album by the 22 year-old Californian singer/songwriter features one bonus track: 'Dreams Collide'. Until she was signed by Jack Johnson, Caillat was he number one unsigned artist on Myspace for four successive months, garnering an almost unbelievable 10 million plays. From the sunny, upbeat promise of songs such as 'Bubbly' and 'Oxygen' to the gentle, semi-R&B groove of 'The Little Things' and the lilting reggae of 'Tied Down', Coco is one of those classic albums that simply makes you feel glad to be alive. Island.
A Great Song, Says Colbie Caillat, Should Lift Your Heart, Warm the Soul and Make You Feel Good. Taking her Own Sound Advice, "Coco", the Debut Album by the 22 Year-old Californian Singer-songwriter is Simply Crammed Full of Them.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Colbie Caillat
The debut album by Colbie Caillat, Coco, is one of the best written I have heard in quite awhile. Hopefully it is as successful as REO Speedwagon's Hi Infidelity, which it compares to in many ways.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Fun
I love this CD. The songs tell stories and have meaning. It's easy to sing along and fun to just sit and listen.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Pleasant, Warm Debut From Caillat
Coco from Malibu, California-born Colbie Caillat is a sweet, sugary diversion that is enjoyable because it accomplishes a lot without trying too much or seeming to work too hard.

That's not a knock on the production. Everything is solid here, and while no new ground is broken, it does what it sets out to do - present Ms. Caillat as a sweet, romantic, lovable presence whose voice glides through one romantic song after the other.

Rating: out of 5 stars - One of those CDs you glad you bought because you love every song!
This girl is awesome! Love every song on her album and I rarely say that. And I rarely purchase whole albums (cds) anymore, but this one is long time keeper.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Hot coco
Colbie Caillat is another example of where I say this: when you have a name like that, you just HAVE to get into show business. Anyway, instead of reaping the success of her father Ken, Colbie started her career on her own and thus became another internet phenomenon. But unlike other no-talents that got their start via MySpace (*cough* Soulja Boy), she is actually worth the hype.

The first three tracks off her album are fast-forwardable (well, actually, only the VERSES to "One Fine Wire" ... Read More
