Editorial Review: This is a thriving account of the virtues of our great country and the many brave, virtuous men and women who have made it the proud, powerful nation it is today. Telling a sweeping tale of human initiative, struggle, vice, and victory, Bennett conveys what is unique about America.

Rating: - A Disappointment
Although I love William Bennett, I had a hard time with this book. The writing is not very good at all. If you are looking for a book on American History that is fair and balanced, I recommend Paul Johnson's A History of the American People. It is beautifully written and very comprehensive.
Rating: - Okay overview of American history
This is a good book for anyone who either has little grasp of the main points of US history from 1492 to 1914, or for someone who's forgotten all that high school US history. I highly recommend Ron Paul's book, Revolution: A Manifesto. We must set ... Read More
Rating: - Great trip thru the history of our country
Bennett has done an outstanding job of documenting the often chaotic, confusing story of the founding and development of our country in a very easy to read and comprehend book. It's become one of my permanent references on US history.
Rating: - To be better informed, buy & read!
Dr. Bennett provides a wonderful walk through our history and points out aspects left unwritten in our standards texts.
