Editorial Review:Now in paperback: The major national bestseller that the New York Times says "tosses sand on liberal sacred cows"John Stossel -- award-winning journalist, tireless consumer-rights crusader, and anchor of ABC's newsmagazine 20/20 -- has built his reputation on his willingness to debunk conventional wisdom, no matter the source. In his latest New York Times bestseller, which has sold more than 200,000 copies in hardcover, he busts the myths, lies, and downright stupidity clogging media outlets on all sides of the spectrum. Taking a shovel to the heaps of misinterpretations and outright mistakes passing for "fact" these days, Stossel proves:--That contrary to popular belief, Americans have more free time now than ever before; --How DDT could actually save millions of lives annually, if only we hadn't been wrongly convinced it caused cancer; --That Republicans don't shrink government -- they expand it; --Why bottled water is a rip-off (hint: not only doesn't it taste better than tap, it's no healthier either!); --How "defective product" lawsuits end up depriving us of safer products; --Why it's okay to marry your cousin; --And much, much more.Bursting with facts, sharp insights, and plain old common sense, Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity is a modern muckraking classic.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a great book that everyone should read
Unfortunately, most people believe everything they see in the media, this book counters that. Some great info, and a great book to debate with friends, especially your teacher friends....

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book!!!
John Stossel does it again with another great book.
Don't believe everything you hear on mainstream
media.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Reading this opened my eyes...
For one, I actually read this. John basically has taken many point that people take for fact and clears up the confusion in a way only he can do... That said, his point of view is rather unique and I liked his take on issues...

For those who gave this book a single star and then rant and rave against the "right-wing" establishment... I suggest you check their other reviews and then you'll find they follow a decidedly hostile path toward anyone who is not as liberally intolerant as they ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Excellent Follow Up to "Give Me a Break"
This book is an excellent follow up to "Give Me a Break". In this book John Stossel spends much less time discussing his personal background and some of his underlying philosophies. For those of us that read his first book it was a continuation of his excellent writing. Those that did not read the first book may miss some of the context that the rest of us benefit from.

In any case, I would highly recommend this book. Some of the myths people believe have the ring of truth. That in ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Libertarian Shovel
I actually bought a slightly newer addition (with a less interesting cover) of this book. It makes a very good case on many points, but Stossell fails to support some of his presumptions as vigorously as he points out the flaws in the logic of the political right and left. He makes his biases fairly clear, which is good. Republicans, Democrats and other independents could learn something from this book. Even those who disagree with him in some areas, such as myself, find that the book may help develop ... Read More
