Rating: - A Hot Mess
I am not sure how to describe the debut novel of Letitia Anderson, Sins of the Past. Multiple characters and multiple storylines made it difficult to keep up with all the antics in the lives of attorney at law, Esteria Arie Shaw, and her partner and cousin, Stephanie Denise Boudreaux. These women were involved in everything from sharing men and hiring hit men to falling for men on a whim. The wildest or most inane storyline involved Keith. Keith had been involved in a relationship with Esteria. Later, he became in a relationship with Stephanie. While involved with Stephanie, he meets Esteria's teenage daughter, Serena and begins a relationship with her. Keith and Serena's relationship causes quite a disturbance within the family.
Reading this book was taxing, as there were problems with grammar, spelling and scene transitions. Scenes and characters abruptly changed often times leaving this reader confused and perplexed. The characters were not likeable as well as inconsistent. Esteria and Stephanie were always arguing with each other, with their significant others or with anyone who happened to cross their paths, then suddenly they were affectionate and pleasant. To end on a positive note, the author did a good job on describing the scenery along the Mississippi coastline.

SINS OF THE PAST takes readers on an emotional roller coaster ride with two young women who are best friends, who share a law practice and more importantly who share a past.
Esteria believed she had finally lain to rest the stifling memories of her father's incestuous attacks and the brutal rape by her best friend's brother, which produced a daughter. Stephanie always felt responsible for the sins committed against Esteria, by her brother, and is constantly trying to make amends for it. In their more recent past, Esteria once dated the man who is currently living with Stephanie, but this also has not marred their friendship.
Esteria's life begins to unravel when two of her family members return; the father she still hates and a cousin whom Esteria feels betrayed her by marrying the man who raped her and her. As Esteria deals with her negative feelings, she learns that her fifteen year old daughter is pregnant by a man who is too familiar to them. One more tragedy was all that was needed to push Esteria over the edge. Her fall causes a major rift between all who surround her, and ignites an influx of lies, double cross and murder. Now only a thorough soul cleansing will set them free.
With SINS OF THE PAST, Leticia Anderson shares the effect our past has on how we grow into adulthood and how the tangled connection between the characters worsened the issues. While the story was engrossing and even heart-wrenching, the drama was a bit overwhelming. Also, the transition between the characters was misleading; at times I was not sure whose voice I was hearing. Still this is an engaging read that held my interest and this is an author I will read again.

You can't put it down
This is one of the best books I have read this year, and I read a lot. It hooked me from the beginning to the end. 'Sins of the Past,' will keep you wanting to know more and more that you couldn't put it down. I did not finish reading the first chapter when I call my sister who loves to read like me and told her to go get it. Just like me she could not put it down and finished it in two days. I hate to say it but I had to go to the end of the book in the middle. I just could not sleep until I knew how it ended. In the first few chapters you either became one of the characters or knew someone in your life it could be. The scenes in the novel was written so well that you felt like you were there. This being the authors first novel she hit it out of the ball park. I can't wait to read more of her novels. Ms Anderson all I can say is keep them coming.
Rating: - never a dull moment
I give this book five stars and a thumbs up. There was never a lule in the book. I read this book twice. It had one event after another that made me wonder what else could happen. It carried me through every emotion and, has the steamy love sences as a plus. I think that it takes a great writier to write about some of the deep subjects in this book and, a brave person to do the hard work that a self published writier has to do.
