Rating: - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW...
I think that this show is BRILLIANT. I just wanted to see what all the hype was about and I was hooked!!!
Having a strong interest in women's studies I really do not think that there is a better depiction of The Feminine Mystique or The Second Shift than what is depicted on this show. It does not have fake notions of what womens relationships are like that are often protrayed really sugary. I think that the relationships with all of the housewives is pretty realistic.
Also, I think that its actually done VERY well. I will say that despite being a young feminist I have always been partial to older TV shows like Leave it To Beaver However I often felt like that the depiction of housewives on those older TV shows were more of what wives were expected to be not the way things really were. How REFRESHING to have a TV show like Desperate Houswives were the depiction is realistic and dramatic!!!
Even though I am not a mother myself, I think that Felicity Hoffman protrays motherhood very realistically which is one of the things that keeps me coming back to the show. I think she is fantastic. And who has not felt pressure to be like Brea and intimidated when other women are sucessful that way? And who does not wish to look like Gabby but if you look behind the scenes of her marriage things do not seem that great. I think the show appeals to every woman.
Also as someone who does love older shows, I think its fun to note that Leslie Ann Warren plays Susan's mother and its fun to see how verstaile she really is.
I must say that I feel a certain level of surprise that the show is written by a MAN who is a REPUBLICAN. And its still good and it seems to get everything just right...
I just can not wait for season three to come out on DVD....however I think that fans of the show who have not seen Stepford Wives or A lot like Heaven would fully enjoy those movies if they are not watching reruns of Desperate Houswives....
Rating: - First Season of Desperate Housewives
I'm a big fan of Desperate Housewives and I would recommend this DVD set to any fan.
Rating: - Great Series
Excellent purchase if you already love the show!
I only started watching this season so it was interesting to see how everyone got to where they are.
Rating: - Great and exciting show
Little by little one discover with pleasure and (often) fun the interesting and various personalities of the characters through the season, which story is definitely a thriller at times.
Acting is gripping and it is hard not to identify with one of the characters during the season where most of the situations could occur in real life.
Susan and her tender sensitiveness, Bree and her apparent coldness, smart Lynette and the sexy Gabrielle offer different lives perspectives, which all in all make a great show.
Tip : almost each disk has an "Extended episode" (in Bonuses) ; you may want to watch directly the extended version instead of the truncated one... but beware the extended episode is first introduced by a guy who seem delighted to reveal spoilers! You may want to skip the (1-2 mn) introduction...
Rating: - Oprah moves in to Wysteria Lane
Did you guys see the short episode on "Bonus Feature?" In this episode, Oprah moves in to Wysteria Lane to get away from the city life and live peacefully. But as she walks around the neighborhood, she discovers all the strange things happening to the housewives in the neighborhood including a naked woman in the bush, a sexy car washer who intentionally soaks her breast to get attention, a neighbor burying a corpse, a mother yelling at her spoiled children, a housewife having sex with an underage gardener, and a note that says "I know what you did. it makes me sick. I am going to tell." Oprah thinks the note was intended for her and says to her husband "Oh my God, somebody knows what we buried under the jacuzzi back in Chicago" and get the hell out of Wyteria Lane. I think that gotta be the funniest episode of all. Ha ha ha. You guys should see it!
