Family Tree Maker is consistently rated among the best genealogy programs. One unique feature of the program is the merge fuction that you can use to automatically add information found in online sources -- e.g. census, birth records, death records, etc. -- into your local data base with all the proper source citations.
You don't have to buy the newest version to get the latest function; you can actually update this version to FTM16 for free *and* get the benefit of a 1 year subscription to [...].

This Family Tree Maker is very informative and has helped considerably in my searching my family background and relatives. I would recommend this to any one that is interested in starting a Family Tree of their own. With the help of research using the 2006 Family Tree Maker plus going to the library, I have so far tracked my family's history back to the 1800's. You would be surprised what you can learn and how much fun you can have also.
