Editorial Review: Based on John Hughes' popular teen science-fiction comedy of the same name, the Weird Science series took the film's premise--two socially inept high schoolers use technology to create their own fantasy woman--and took it to outlandish ends over the course of its four-year run. The show toned down the original feature's raunchier aspects--though ravishing in her wardrobe, dream girl Lisa (played by Vanessa Angel) hewed closer to Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie than vampish Kelly LeBrock)--and the boys (John Mallory Asher and Michael Manaserri in the Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith roles, respectively) play more as good-natured goofs than hormonally charged nerds. Much of the show's humor came from Lisa's ability to grant the guys' wishes, which invariably went awry (spots on the basketball team in "Airball Kings" lead to a disastrous season; Manaserri accidentally becomes the Commander-in-Chief in "Mr. President"; Lisa's clones of the boys--made from bubble gum--want to replace them permanently in "The Bazooka Boys"), though Lee Tergesen (later of Oz) earned plenty as Wyatt's thick-skulled brother Chett. Though the fashion and music scream early '90s, the show's breezy, silly gags have largely remained fresh, which should please its longtime fans. All 23 episodes of the first two seasons are retained in this four-disc box set; Asher and Angel are also on hand to lend commentary to three episodes, including the pilot, "She's Alive," "Bazooka Boys," and "The Most Dangerous Wish" (Lisa brings a video game villain to life). A trivia quiz and cast biographies round out the extras. --Paul Gaita
Wyatt Donnelly and Gary Wallace are two regular high school nerds struggling with unpopularity a serious dating drought and the endless torment of Wyatt s older brother Chett. They use their computer skills to create their dream girl Lisa whose supermodel good looks and super-genius brain are overshadowed only by her extraordinary power to grant the boys whatever they desire. But Lisa often takes the boys wishes a bit too literally and things don t always turn out quite as planned. From the first bolt of inspiration through their high-tech attempts at wish fulfillment in dating sports and popularity WEIRD SCIENCE is a comical look at Wyatt and Gary s uproarious misadventures and at what happens when high school gets reinvented.Based on the classic John Hughes film of the same name every episode of the first two seasons of this hilarious hit science-fiction series is collected here for the first time on DVD.DVD Features: Audio Commentary on She s Alive and The Bazooka Boys with Cast Members Vanessa Angel John Mallory Asher Audio Commentary on She s Alive: and The Most Dangerous Wish by Michael Manasseri; Trivia Quiz; Cast BiographiesDVD Features:Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo)26 episodes on four discsCommentary by cast members on three episodesTrivia quizCast biographiesSystem Requirements:Run Time: 598 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 733961105414 Manufacturer No: AAAE105410

Rating: - Hope To See Remaining Seasons!
Well nothing more to add on the series and it's greatness that hasn't already been mentioned , just wanted to put in my vote for the remaining seasons. Seems like alot of shows that i like start out with a bang , then they never finish releasing the remaining seasons. For an example, Facts of Life and Living Single, just to mention two, so if the executives are reading these reviews as a way to gage whether or not they will shell out the cash for the future releases, i can say that i for one am in, ... Rating: - Just one flaw---but a very significant flaw!
I would love to get to give this DVD collection 5 stars since this show was one of my favorites, but I cannot because I was unable to enjoy it at all. I don't know why, but A & E Home Video failed to include the closed-captioning [CC] when they released this DVD collection. If you are deaf or hearing-impaired and watch to watch this show, you are out of luck. ["Weird Science" was closed-captioned while it was originally broadcast.] Other than this flaw, the quality of the DVD was just fine ... Read More
Rating: - A surprisingly good show
I'm going to be honest. I bought this simply because I had some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. I had never seen this show before, I was only familiar with one actress in the regular cast, Vanessa Angel played Freya on SG1, and I don't usually like the Bewitched type of show this was. Namely that a beautiful woman can alter time and space by will alone and yet never seems to get the spells she casts right. However I was pleasently shocked by the fairly clever jokes, the descent graphics and ... Read More

Unfortunately her interpretations of their wishes often goes awry - with strange results. WEIRD SCIENCE considers the hilarious results and is a fine DVD collection based on the classic John Hughes film, presenting every episode from the first two seasons in a dvd collection which includes a trivia quiz, cast biographies and ...
