This site
is the effort of Dr. Tariqshah M Syed, a graduate of
Khyber
Medical College Peshawar, Pakistan.
The
inspiration came from the students in search of advice for their
postgraduate training program.
Khyber
Medical College, Peshawar is the oldest institution in North West
Frontier Province (NWFP) and was established in 1954 on the
campus of university of Peshawar to which it is affiliated.
However Administrative control of the college was taken over by
the Government of NWFP in 1975. It has not only produced
approximately 7000 graduates who hold quite high positions in the
profession, not only within country but abroad as well, including
UK and USA. Most of the senior teachers and consultants in KMC
and other lately established Medical Colleges in NWFP are
Graduates of Khyber Medical College. The college has started
admissions with 50 students in 1954 and now it admits 235
students including students from foreign countries. The College
has all the departments of basic and clinical subjects and is
recognized world over including World Health Organization (WHO).
It offer apart from MBBS degree, courses for postgraduate
diplomas including M.Phil in all the basic subjects and Fellow
College of Surgeons and Physicians (FCPS) training for diploma of
FCPS by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan in all
the clinical subjects and some of the basic subjects like
Forensic Medicine.
Affiliated
teaching hospital of the college is the Khyber Teaching Hospital
which is 1500 bedded hospital and is just across the road,
connected by an overhead bridge and a subway. The Hospital has
well-equipped teaching and non-teaching departments and offers
modern diagnostic and therapeutic facilities.
Khyber
Medical College is surrounded by Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD)
and Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (IRNUM)
providing additional learning facilities apart form its own
center of education development and postgraduate education.
Recently
the college and the hospital has given administrative and
financial autonomy by the Government of NWFP and this is
certainly going to improve the facilities for the students and
the general public.
