Product Description: This practical, highly illustrated book describes the treatment and management of commonly encountered traumatic injuries to the teeth. It relates these types of trauma to crown fractures, root fractures, luxation injuries, and exarticulations. A step-by-step reference, this book also discusses complications that may involve surrounding soft and hard tissues, plus those that may arise in managing medically compromised patients.
Hundreds of full-color photographs and illustrations show concepts and depict case studies and treatment outcomes.Step-by-step descriptions of treatment plans offer "recipes" for treating patients according to type of injury. For each type of traumatic injury, you'll learn these key steps:
How to perform a correct initial assessment of the problem. How to determine whether the patient suffers any related problems. How to record the injury and its subsequent treatment in the patient record. How to avoid future problems by ensuring that the entire tooth is treated - including any hidden injury to the pulp or dentin.
Information on etiology and epidemiology of problems promotes more effective treatment of specific injuries and conditions. The Law and Dental Trauma chapter explains legal issues unique to treating dental injuries under emergency conditions.Psychological Impact of Injuries chapter describes the reactions that trauma patients may have, and how dentists can improve treatment by providing the patient with emotional support and holistic management.Chapters on hard tissue injuries focus on injuries to tooth/hard tissue anatomy - and one chapter examines soft tissue management - discussing types of trauma and their effects on surrounding oral tissues.Introductory chapter provides an overview of topics discussed in the book.Hundreds of references are listed alphabetically at the end of each chapter with research studies and current articles for further research. An interdisciplinary approach includes periodontal, endodontic, and pediatric considerations for specific types of injuries.
There has been very rapid development in computing in recent years and this is now a general trend in the field of orthopedics. Orthopedic trauma is no exception, as there is much enthusiasm surrounding the use of surgical navigation in musculoskeletal trauma. In light of these developments, the successful first edition of this book has been revised and updated. A lot of new information has been added to the original chapter on CAOS (computer-aided orthopedic surgery). Also, as the WHO has published new guidelines on osteoporosis management, together with the many conceptual changes in this area, adding a chapter on osteoporosis is both timely and appropriate. A chapter on hip fracture rehabilitation has also become necessary, not only because it echoes the teachings of the chapter on osteoporosis, but also because of the projected exponential increase in the occurrence of this fracture by the year 2050.

Product Description: This text gathers together the most efficient and effective tools to ease the pain of grief and promote the natural process of bereavement. The purpose of the text is fourfold. Firstly, to provide a theoretical bridge between two fields by providing conceptual terminology, such as defining both "normal" versus "dysfunctional bereavement" and the meaning and range of death-related PTSD. Secondly, the volume confirms and illustrates the identical patterns of reactions between those who survive the death of a loved one and other traumatic events. Next, the text applies the most useful theoretical models to the bereavement experience, and in turn acknowledeges the utility of generalizing bereavement models to other traumatic experiences. The volume's final purpose is to identify and apply the most useful and effective approaches in traumatology literature to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of traumatic stressors other than death.
Product Description: Paul Valent sees that the dialectic is not between "life and death" but between "life and trauma". This text theorizes that the big issues of life can now be approached through the science of traumatology. Through communication with, and observation of, people whose lives have been stretched under stress or disrupted by trauma, the fulfilling components of their lives can be defined, oriented and categorized. It introduces the theory on the back of clinical and historical material, examining the current state of such concepts as stress, trauma, defences, memories, post post-traumatic stress disorder, and other illnesses. It should be of interest to those in the healing professions or to those who work with traumatized individuals, lawyers, social workers, clergy and those in the humanities in general.
