Book Description: Meet the next classic reference in cardiac surgery. This readable, scholarly, comprehensive book focuses on the practice of cardiac surgery in the adult patient featuring over 1000 superb illustration depicting winning surgical technique. In addition, indications, pathophysiology, surgical decision making, complications, and results of surgical treatment are examined in depth. Master surgeon, L. Henry Edmunds, Jr. leads an all-star cast of contributors in this treatise that forms the perfect surgical complement to a textbook of cardiology.
Product Description: Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery, the first volume in Springer's new Operative Dictations Made Simple Series, is intended to teach residents the principles of succinct and precise operative dictations for a wide spectrum of surgical procedures. Designed as a portable resource, the book provides typical dictations to guide the resident. Comprised of 155 procedures, this volume covers the alimentary tract, breast, lymph nodes, and head and neck, as well as vascular surgery, including aneurysmal disease and endovascular procedures. This volume provides templates for both minimally invasive and open approaches. As it is often difficult for the surgical resident to filter what should be included in the operative report, this book provides an authoritative guide for operative dictations while remaining flexible enough to accomodate variations in the surgical procedures performed. Written by the experienced team of a surgical department chair and a program director, the book guides the reader step-by-step through successful dictations. The book can also serve as a quick review of the essential steps of various surgical procedures. Clearly, a must-have for every surgical resident. In addition, Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery: Operative Dictations Made Simple makes a perfect companion volume to Chassin's Operative Strategy in General Surgery, Third Edition, edited by Carol E. H. Scott-Conner, M.D., Ph.D. The procedures in both books are presented in the same order so the resident can easily use both resources together.
Revised, updated, and expanded for its Second Edition, this classic anatomic reference is an indispensable guide for the vascular surgeon planning an operation. It contains 568 drawings by a noted illustrator depicting the complex anatomy of the vasculature and surrounding structures, and demonstrating the ideal exposure techniques. Concise legends and text describe the anatomy in relation to the surgical approach. This edition includes more extensive descriptions of cranial nerve anatomy, more anatomic variants, and new surgical approaches such as suboccipital approach to the vertebral artery, retroperitoneal approach to mesenteric vessels, posterior approach to crural arteries, and harvesting the superficial femoral vein.

Product Description: It is the practical experience gained in the operating room and on the wards dealing with complications and deviations from the typical or average scenario that matures and fully develops a surgeon. The typical textbook demonstrates the “right” or standard way to do things and the implicit assumption is that if these guidelines are followed then the patient and the surgeon’s life will be complication free. Good results come from experience and experience is gained by making mistakes. The goal of this book is to minimize the frequency of surgical complications and maximize the outcome when they do occur by allowing the reader to learn from the operative and clinical experience of those who have gone before so that each generation can collectively stand on the shoulders of the preceding generation without the need to learn from one’s own complications.
This book is therefore designed less to address indications for operations than how to carry them out and provide postoperative care without complications. While the authors of the various chapters address the correct or right way to perform operations and care for patients after surgery, they have also been tasked to address and emphasize specific dos and don’ts for both intraoperative techniques and postoperative care that will reduce the incidence of complications. As some complications, alas, are inevitable, also addressed are the issues of timely recognition and appropriate treatment of complications when they do occur despite best efforts.
